The main aim of this card is to encourage more students to participate in the university social life whilst enjoying certain benefits such as discounts and promotions from local restaurants and shops. In addition to helping the student's life, this card would also help boost Colchester's local economy.
However to enjoy these perks, students have to be fully registered via the university’s Student Union with their societies. As such, this discount card can also be seen as a step to help the university widen participation of students in societies, to further enrich their university experience.
This project is supported by the University of Essex. Finally as the initiating societies are from Asia, the card name will be known as A.S.I.A card [Asia Societies in Alliance].
